Tips from After the Proposal!
This is a subject I’ve wanted to talk about for some time now, but as a Photographer I wanted it to be from someone else’s point of view.
Who better to answer questions than Jean McGrury of After the Proposal?
Jean has been in the wedding planning business for over 25 years. She’s done it all! From small back yard weddings to 500 guests at the Ritz-Carlton and everything in between!
When I asked Jean why she only recommends professional photographers she gave the great information below!
1. Why do you as a Wedding Planner only recommend Professional Photographers?
These days, photography is practiced by anyone with a smartphone, or nice camera, but it’s mastered by few.
When it comes to those once-in-a-lifetime moments, when you’ve got one shot at getting it right, you must make sure the person behind the camera is a pro.
A proven professional photographer is that!
2. What is a disaster you’ve seen by not having a professional photographer photographing the wedding?
Too many to count, but this one comes to mind. Bride hired a college friend to shoot the wedding. This person only came with one camera and no back up batteries. She left to go to the store to purchase more and was gone about an hour. Sorry to say that she missed a lot of the important shots.
In the end the pictures were not very good and the bride was so mad at herself for not spending the money to hire a professional photographer.
3. What advice would you give a bride who’s in the market for their wedding photographer?
Do your research and if you have a wedding planner listen to them! Hire a professional that you feel comfortable around the will be with you all day at your wedding.
4. Final tip!
The way that I personally look at it is if I were going to get my hair cut, I am going to look for someone who has been to beauty school and who has the license to prove it, not just some random person who says, “Oh, I’ve been cutting hair for years.”
It’s the same for searching for a photographer! You want a professional!
