It’s Toast to Thursday and we’re sharing something we think is so important for your wedding day!
CHOOSING A WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER!
Now that it’s in caps my point is made, right?!
I’m not just saying this because I think photography is so important! (Even though, I totally think it is!)
Think about it this way… You spend $800 on your wedding cake that you enjoy one time. All you have left are the memories and the photos.
You spend $1,500 on your gown. It is the prefect gown, and you feel like you belong on the cover of a magazine. Photography captures not only the details of the gown, but it also shows the radiating joy you feel in that very moment.
I could go on for hours explaining why I feel wedding photography is so important, but I plan to try and sum this up rather quickly.
Wedding Photography allows you to relive your day again, and again!
We sometimes forget how quickly time passes by, or that our memories may fail us. A photographer tells a story and captures something that will one day be gone.
What are a few ways in making the decision on who to book for your day? I’m going to share 3 tips that I think are a great help in choosing your wedding photographer.
1 – Style
Do you both share a similar style in the art you are drwan to?
For instance, if you are a very modern Bride, and drawn to fashion photography, you may not work well with a photographer who has a vintage feel in all their photos, or vice versa.
Look through the photographers portfolio and see what it is that you’re drawn to about them. Make sure style is on the top of that list! If your taste do not mix, chances are you won’t be a perfect match.
2 – Reviews
It’s never a bad idea to look into the reviews of the photographer you are considering for your day. I have a list of brides who have given me permission to give out their number to any potential couples wishing to speak with them about a reference on Kayce Stork Photography.
What if you don’t want to ask for references? Google is also a great tool when looking for reviews!
I know some may not feel comfortable asking for direct references, but most vendors do not mind giving them. Do keep that in mind!
Now, for another situation…….
What if a wedding photographer has several bad reviews, but you are still very drawn to their work? You love the look of their portfolio, their Facebook page, all of it, except for a few reviews.
In my professional opinion, I would suggest just asking them about the negative review and give them a chance to explain. (I know it may sound like something that could get a little awkward, but hear me out!)
There are ALWAYS two sides to every story. At times a wedding vendor may work with a bride who didn’t do her homework before hiring and wasn’t happy for several reasons. It may not be because this business done anything wrong. If this is something that makes you nervous, but again, you really like this photographer then do yourself the favor and ask. Many would be thrilled to give you their side of the story, and you can make your own decision from there.
3 – Personality
Yes, I said personality!
Your photographer will likely be with you anywhere from 5-10 hours on your big day. Making sure you get along with them as an individual is very important. No, it’s not necessary you go to the movies together, or become best friends, but you do want to enjoy their company, no doubt! You’ll want your day to be a special and full of joy.
Choosing a great photographer is a sure step to achieving just that!
