Everyone who has read my blog for longer than two weeks probably knows I like a yummy wedding cake! Seriously, I plan to have a shirt made that says “I’m here for the dip kisses and the wedding cake!” Haha! I’m half kidding, of course! 😉
I’m obviously a wedding photographer, not a baker, but I love to help to educate brides during this busy, overwhelming season. One way I can do this is with the amazing friends I’ve made along the way during my 10 + years of building a business.
What tips did Jacqueline, owner of French Kiss Pastries share for our brides-to-be to keep in mind before booking their consultation?
1. Will you save your top tier for your first anniversary?
(Okay, this would have never occurred to me!) If you plan to save your top tier then, of course, your guests can’t eat it so you could possibly need to make an adjustment to the cake size.
2. Will you have a groom’s cake?
If yes, your wedding cake can be a smaller size if you’d like. Be sure to decide this before your consultation so the bakery can give you the best estimate of costs, servings, etc.
3. What are your favorite flavors?
Are you a chocolate cake fan? Vanilla? Lemon? Write down your faves to share during your consultation!
On the same topic, be sure to write down the flavors you absolutely DO NOT like!
4. Allergies!
Do you or your sweetie have any food allergies? Be sure to share this during your consultation if you do.
5. Know your guest count and how many you should plan for!
6. Inspiration!
Do you have lace detail on your dress that you love and want to mimic on your cake if possible? Have you seen photos on Pinterest that you love? Bring them!
